Rita Edochie was born on April 16, 1964, in Onitsha, Anambra State to the family of Mr. and Mrs. Okwudili. Her uncle, Mr. Okika, brought her up and only returned to her parents when she was about grown up enough to enter university. She has two siblings named Augustine Okwudili and Nnoyelum Okwudili. Rita Edochie grew up in the east, hence she speaks the Igbo language fluently.

For her formative education, Rita attended St John primary school and All Saints secondary school where she obtained her First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC) and West African Council Examination (WACE) respectively. She then proceeded to Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Akwa, and bagged a bachelor’s degree in Communication.
Career
As soon as Rita graduated from the university and completed her NYSC service, she secured her first job as a broadcaster at Anambra Broadcasting Service where she and her husband were both staff. She worked with the broadcasting service until 1997 when she decided to try out acting in the movie industry. During the process of trying something new in the entertainment industry, Rita was still very active in her broadcasting job. Even when she started getting acting roles, she still didn’t quit her job, she was able to manage both of them since acting and broadcasting are connected.
Rita Edochie started her acting career professionally after she got married to Tony Edochie, the Edochie family influence brought her this far in the industry. Rita made her acting debut in 1997 when she acted in the movie titled “Waterloo” directed by Teco Benson. Shortly after, she landed herself another role in “Evil Men” “August Meeting” and “Igodo”. Since then, she has acted in over 200 Nollywood movies, such as The King and The Princess, The Storm, Abuja Boys, Censored Love, The Last Burial, and many more. She has also been featured in The Johnsons, Super Story, and Family Ties.
In 2002, her career started blossoming when she acted in 6 movies throughout the year and appeared in 20 movies in 2003. She has acted alongside Ngozi Ezeonu, Zubby Michaels, Clems Ohameze and many others.
